AG Vascular Signaling

1. Overview

Endothelial cells form the inner layer of all blood vessels. The surface occupied by endothelial cells in the human body is approximately equal to the surface of two tennis courts. Once thought to be a passive diffusion barrier, these cells are now recognized as dynamic participants in the regulation of vasomotor tone, blood cell trafficking, hemostatic balance, cell survival, and the innate and acquired immunity.

Our lab is interested in analyzing the underlying cellular regulatory system of the vasculature and how environmental signals are transduced into specific cellular responses. We are particularly interested in translating the molecular findings for cardiovascular diseases from bench to bedside. For this, we employ an integrated approach, combining molecular studies with intensive investigations in animal disease models.
